The 1950 Bowman Baseball Cards Set features 252 cards, with the unusual characteristic of the first series (Cards # 1 to 72) being the scarcest. The 1950 Bowman Set is a nice attractive color set, but is very light on major rookies, with none making the HOF. The most valuable of the 1950 Bowman Baseball Cards are #22 Jackie Robinson and #98 Ted Williams.
1950 was the only year that Bowman had a monopoly on the baseball card business. Leaf - which had issued a set between 1948 and 1949 – was done until 1960, and Topps did not start issuing cards until 1951. The 1950 Bowman design is a marked improvement over the sets of previous years. The cards were again 2 1/16" by 2 1/2" in size, but the machine-added colors used in the 1949 set has been replaced with hand-painted color reproductions of actual photographs.
